Websites for Parents

  • Wonderville - This award-winning website showcases Wonderville, a colourful community where charming characters, including Marie, Tommy, Crash the robot and Proton the cat, take users on exciting adventures that explore science learning. It is an interactive, virtual learning environment where children and parents can explore amazing activities and scientific experiments and printable Science@Home activities.
  • Parents Want 2Learn.Ca Too - An excellent site for parents with a focus on being Internet savvy.  This site was prepared by teachers in Alberta.
  • Illuminations - This website was created by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics in the United States. It’s a terrific site for parents to use with their children. It includes interactive activities and web links to other math sites for every grade level and type of math.
  • Alberta Education - Follow this link to the Government of Alberta’s education website to view curriculum information and more!
  • Edmonton Weather - Do you need to know how to dress your children for the day?  This is Environment Canada’s link to daily weather.  Is there a special project your child is working on in school about climate?  Take a look here!
  • Canada Food Guide - This website shows you the new Canada Food Guide! 
  • Food Serving Sizes for Ages 6 to 12 (pdf) - This Government of Alberta website will show you the appropriate food serving sizes. (This is the old guide, but still useful!).
  • Edmonton Public Schools - This is the website for all of Edmonton Public Schools. You can find information about what is happening in our district!
  • Make puzzles (K - 6)  - Puzzlemaker is a puzzle generation tool for teachers, students and parents. Create and print customized word search, crossword and math puzzles using your word lists.
  • Help for Struggling Learners - This is a parent guide to helping the child who may have learning difficulties. This website has a weekly newsletter to help parents with information and strategies that they can use to help their children.
  • Halloween Costumes - Want to find how to make Halloween costumes cheap, easy and great?  Look here!
  • Best of the Web for Children (coming soon) - This site is designed and organized so children who read can find what they are looking for with just two or three mouse clicks. The links on this list have been suggested by teachers around the world and collected in one place to help children, parents and teachers. The list was created and is maintained and hosted by Geoffrey Bell, a teacher in Alberta. It is reviewed and updated regularly.

Division 1 (Kindergarten to Grade 3)

  • Art - Colour (K - 3) - Learn how to mix colours!
  • Health – Scrub Club - Handwashing! (K - 6) - Find out the best way to wash your hands so that you don’t spread nasty germs!
  • Reading - Starfall (K - 3) - Help yourself learn to read!  There are lots of fun, fun, fun activities for readers!
  • Exercise (K - 6) - Here’s a fun way to get some exercise at home…just follow this chick and the snappy music!
  • Social – Mapping (K - 6)
  • Puzzlemaker (Gr. 2 - 6) - Puzzlemaker is a puzzle generation tool for teachers, students and parents. Create and print customized word search, crossword and math puzzles using your word lists.
  • KidZone (K - 6) - There are lots of activities covering lots of subjects for kids of all ages on this website!

  • Clifford’s Stories - Children can choose to hear a Clifford story read aloud.  The child controls the speed of the story and interacts with the page.  This site reinforces beginning reading skills.

Division 2 (Grade 4 - 6)

  • Get Web-wise - This is an Alberta Government website is designed to help parents, teen and kids learn how to use the Internet safely.
  • Environment Canada Cross Canada Website - This website is easy to use and lets you find out the weather across Canada.
  • Math Kidzone – Create a Graph - This website gives a basic graph tutorial and lets you create 5 different graphs of your own.
  • Superkids (Math) – Education for the Future - This website is a math worksheets creator to help practice math skills, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, telling time, fractions and more, at home.  You can even print off an answer sheet.
  • The Canadian Encyclopedia - This website is a Canadian encyclopedia, all Canadian content.  It is very informative and interesting.  Does require parent support or a higher reading level.
  • Grades 4 - 6 Rhyme Zone - Type in a word below to find its rhymes, synonyms, definitions, and more!
  • KidZone (K - 6) - There are lots of activities covering lots of subjects for kids of all ages, on this website!

  • Kids Love 2 Learn - This is a wonderful, kid-friendly page for Grades 3 to 6 that has a variety of links to websites for every subject area.  Each link is directly related to the specific topics under the Alberta Curriculum and provides students with a wide scope of information and tools they can use to support their learning in the classroom.
  • Alberta Online Reference Centre - Are you worried about getting quality information from the internet?  Go to this site with the secret user name and password that Mrs. Pelensky tells you and access:
    • World Book
    • Grolier Kids
    • Elibrary Elementary
    • Sirs Discoverer
    • There are more, but these are Mrs. P’s favourites.
  • Fact Monster (from Information Please) - This is a kid friendly site for bigger kids who are searching for information.  Inquirers will love this site as it is easy to type in a search term and find good information.
  • ABC@2learn - Want to go to some cool sites?  Just click across the top bar for your favourite subject to find games that help you learn.  You know the sites are good because teachers picked them!  This site is for kids in K-3.
  • Kids Love to Learn - Do you want to review things you are learning in school, but don’t want to waste time surfing?  Go to this site- teachers have done the work for you and found great sites for all your school subjects.
  • Edmonton Public Library - Did you know you could check out what’s at the library from your home?  You can reserve books too!  This is how you can get your hands on books that are always out at our library!  There are some great links at this site - be prepared - you might want to stay all day!
  • American Library Association Great Web Sites for Kids
  • Games and Entertainment - Has great activities for Division 2 kids. 
  • Fun for Younger Children - Has all kinds of great games for kids in K - 3.
